Ericsson and Avea launch mobile broadband in Turkey

Turkish operator Avea will introduce high-speed mobile broadband services to its more than 12 million subscribers with the help of WCDMA/HSPA and mobile backhaul technology from Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC). The companies have signed a four-year contract for HSPA-enabled network.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will be one of the main suppliers and will integrate and deploy WCDMA/HSPA radio access and packet core networks, as well as a complete mobile-backhaul solution based on microwave transmission and optical transport. The new HSPA-enabled network will ensure mobile broadband without bottlenecks, allowing Avea to offer innovative multimedia services and high-speed mobile internet access. Additionally, Ericsson will expand and upgrade the speed and capacity of Avea’s existing GSM network.

Ericsson will also be responsible for network deployment, systems integration and support including spare-parts management. Deployment and integration work has already started.

Cüneyt Türktan, General Manager of Avea, says: „With Ericsson’s leading HSPA technology, we can position ourselves in the dynamic and competitive Turkish market, and ensure our subscribers enjoy a richer communications experience, including high-speed mobile broadband that enables anytime-anywhere access.”

Anders Lindblad, Head of Ericsson Turkey & Israel, says: „We are honored to be chosen by Avea to help them bring advanced high-speed mobile broadband services to their customers across Turkey. This strategically important deal strengthens our partnership and reaffirms Ericsson’s global leadership in HSPA and mobile backhaul.”

Future-proof new PRIMERGY server design from Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers more for less
Dual Socket S5 server family system, more operations for fewer watts with Cool-safe™ chassis, new Green IT label models

Munich, March 30, 2009 —

The new PRIMERGY Dual Socket S5 server architecture from Fujitsu Siemens Computers is future proof, and already available to order with the new line-up of Intel CPUs. The PRIMERGY S5 generation system’s performance, power efficiency, usability and built-in virtualization technology make it the perfect platform for dynamic infrastructures, while its Cool-safe chassis saves energy and reduces operational costs.

Masami Yamamoto, Corporate Senior Vice President, Fujitsu Limited says: „The new global product line of PRIMERGY servers means the Fujitsu Group is ideally positioned to increase its worldwide presence of products, solutions and data center services. With its brand values of outstanding quality, performance and green features, PRIMERGY is a cornerstone of Fujitsu’s strategy. The new Dual Socket S5 generation underlines Fujitsu’s continued orientation on customer requirements.”

New generation PRIMERGY Dual Socket S5 servers are designed with present and future customer requirements in mind. The new systems are optimized for maximum performance, with a memory capacity of up to 144 GB, and offer the latest Intel Xeon® 5500 processor series, codenamed Nehalem, unveiled today by Intel. With their new levels of performance and reliability, the new dual-socket PRIMERGY S5 models are ideal for virtualization scenarios and consolidation projects, as in many cases, a single server is a perfect substitute for a cluster of older servers.

Green IT is a key part of the design of the new PRIMERGY S5 server range. The new models are among the first servers to be marked with Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ own Green IT label and achieve a coveted two-star ranking in this stringent labeling scheme. They ship with power supply units that are high efficient. Innovative ServerView Power Management features make it easy to conserve power, resulting in lower energy costs per server. In addition, the new servers feature “Cool-safe”, a unique new cooling-optimized design, which further cuts energy consumption. All in all, the new PRIMERGY S5 servers do more with less power, helping contribute to a significant drop in lifetime ownership costs.

The dual-socket category is one of the largest x86 server market segments. Offering a choice of machines that ideally suited to customer environments, five new dual-socket models are already ready to ship – the range starting with the TX300 S5 (tower server), the RX200 S5 (1U rack server), and the RX300 S5 (2U rack server). In June, two more PRIMERGY models, the TX200 S5 (tower server) and BX620 S5 (Blade server) will complement the product range.

Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers says: “The new S5 generation of PRIMERGY servers make a real breakthrough in terms of lifetime ownership costs. We are introducing a revolutionary new design that optimizes cooling and usability as well as immediately being able to offer the next-generation Intel Xeon processors. The result is a very high performance range of servers that are able to provide the performance for long-term data center deployment. The new PRIMERGY S5 generation is built to save time and resources and is a good example of how our innovative server design meets customers’ needs now and in the future.”

„The new Intel Xeon® processor 5500 is another key milestone in Intel’s approach to increase the power while reducing power consumption in Servers” says Christian Morales, Vice President and General Manager Europe, Middle East and Africa at Intel. “Customers can unleash the power and energy efficiency of the new Intel Xeon® processor 5500 series now, as vendors such as Fujitsu Siemens Computers have the technology ready to make it available immediately.”

The new PRIMERGY Dual Socket S5 servers are available to order immediately. Shipping dates outside EMEA may vary.

A Green New Year: Fujitsu Siemens Computers already meets the new EU law requirements for standby power consumption

A Green New Year: Fujitsu Siemens Computers already meets the new EU law requirements for standby power consumption
Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ professional PCs already use less than 1 Watt when on standby

Munich, January 05, 2009 —

The majority of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ professional PCs already meet the new EU directive regarding low standby power consumption. The regulation went into effect on January 5, 2009 with a one year transitional period. The law states that as of

all electrical and electronic office as well as household equipment must prove that they use less than 1 Watt on standby power. Thanks to Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ innovative „Low Power Soft Off” function, PCs in the ESPRIMO C/E/P5730 and ESPRIMO E/P7935 series as well as the CELSIUS W370 workstation are already well below this value today. Around 90 percent of these professional PCs are even below 0.5 Watt – a rate that is not required by law until 2013. These high standards from the leading European IT infrastructure provider emphasize once again Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ environmental product policy and its innovative leadership in „Green IT”. Last year, the company had already introduced its 0-Watt-Monitor.

The directive states that the new EU regulation „should increase the market penetration of technologies yielding improved energy efficiency for standby functionalities and off-mode losses, leading to estimated energy savings of 35 TWh by 2020, compared to a business-as-usual scenario.” The full directive can be seen at
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2008:339:0045:0052:EN:PDF

Fujitsu Siemens Computers fully supports this objective. In order to move device power consumption towards zero, the company has developed a function known as “Low Power Soft Off/Deep Sleep”. A pre-defined setting allows the user to minimize energy consumption during the standby mode to less than one Watt. This configuration provides power just for the on/off switch but only enough so that it can „wake up” the system again.

As of January 5, 2010, standby power consumption of less than 1 Watt is legally required by the EU, and is also a prerequisite for the CE certificate. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has already been meeting this requirement for over 12 months – even before the law went into effect, and proving once again that the company is a market leader in “Green IT”.

HTC Snap™ makes staying in touch with more people less complicated

HTC’s newest QWERTY smartphone features “Inner Circle”
to automatically prioritize email from life’s most important people

LAS VEGAS – April 1, 2009 – HTC Corporation today debuted its newest QWERTY smartphone, the HTC Snap™. Designed with a set of features selected to deliver everything customers need without overwhelming them with things they don’t, the HTC Snap makes it easier than ever to stay in contact with life’s most important people.

A recent study conducted by Harris Interactive® and commissioned by HTC* found that 44% of US adults are often overwhelmed by the amount of email they receive, and over half (55%) of US adults prioritize five or fewer people with whom they communicate via email. In response to these issues, HTC’s innovative Inner Circle feature allows HTC Snap users to press a dedicated Inner Circle key to bring emails from a preselected group of people to the top of their inbox, enabling important messages to be acted upon immediately.

“Recognizing that people are being overwhelmed by an avalanche of email, the HTC Snap introduces Inner Circle, an HTC innovation that makes it easy for people to prioritize messages from the most important people in their lives at the press of a button,” said John Wang, Chief Marketing Officer, HTC Corporation. “The HTC Snap represents the latest step in HTC’s mission to create a range of innovative smartphones, each with specific benefits designed to both surprise and delight our customers.”

With a slim, sleek profile designed to fit perfectly in the hand, the HTC Snap measures less than a half-inch thick (12 mm), yet it can deliver up to eight and a half hours of talk time with the standard 1500mAh battery. The full QWERTY keyboard is ergonomically designed with extra-large domed keys and responsive tactile feedback to make typing emails and text messages fast, accurate and comfortable. High-speed 3G HSPA connectivity makes it quick and easy to send pictures to friends, access favorite social networking sites, or download large files while on the go.

The HTC Snap is powerful enough for experienced business users looking for an affordable, straightforward choice for remotely synchronizing email, calendar and contacts with their Microsoft Exchange server. However, the flexible Microsoft Windows Mobile® 6.1 Standard platform allows the HTC Snap to also be simple enough for first-time smartphone users wanting to keep their family life organized.

The HTC Snap is expected to be available in select channels during the second quarter of 2009, rolling out in markets around the world throughout the second half of the year. Additionally, an unlocked version supporting HSDPA at 850/1900MHz for the US market will be made available under the name HTC S522 during the summer.

6 kwietnia, 2009 Dodaj komentarz

Nintendo DSiWare launch titles announced
Nintendo DSi arrives in Europe this Friday, and brings with it the option of downloading a range of new software from the Nintendo DSi Shop directly to your handheld system.

This range of software will be called Nintendo DSiWare and will offer an ever-expanding collection of fun games and applications for the system. When the handheld hits shelves, the following titles will be waiting for you to download in the Nintendo DSi Shop:

• Nintendo DSi Browser: A free download that means Nintendo DSi users will be able to browse the Internet to their heart’s content.

• Paper Plane: A simple but addictive action game in which players have to guide their paper aircraft through mazes that get increasingly harder to navigate.

• Pyoro: Take control of a cute bird called Pyoro as he tries to catch the fruit that falls from the top of the screen with his tongue! If the falling fruit hits the ground, a hole appears – leaving Pyoro with an ever-shrinking area in which to move. Worse still, if a piece of fruit lands on Pyoro’s head, it’s game over!

• WarioWare: Snapped!: WarioWare: Snapped! uses the Nintendo DSi’s inner camera to put you in the frame for some fun! Using the camera’s ability to detect motion, players must complete zany tasks within a set time limit by moving their hands and faces in front of the screen.

• Art Style: AQUITE: This fun & challenging mini-game that is perfect to play on the go. Your aim is to help a little diver reach the bottom of the ocean, but getting there is more challenging than you may think!

• Art Style: CODE: Holding the Nintendo DSi sideways, like an open book, the goal is to switch around and rearrange digits, ultimately adding them together to make 10. Once selected, the digits adding up to 10 will all disappear. Different modes offer variations on this simple yet addictive rule to ensure hours of number-crunching fun!

Nintendo DSiWare is available for download via the Nintendo DSi Shop. All Nintendo DSiWare games and applications can be purchased in exchange for Nintendo Points, which are available from retailers or directly in the Nintendo DSi Shop. Certain applications, like the Nintendo DSi Browser, are free to download.

For a limited period after the launch of Nintendo DSi on 3 April, everyone who buys the new system and connects to the Nintendo DSi Shop will receive 1000 Nintendo DSi Points for free.
