Konica Minolta’s High Chroma means what you see is what you get

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd has launched the bizhub PRO C65hc, the company’s first high-speed digital colour system to use the revolutionary High Chroma toner, designed to simulate the colour palate of an RGB monitor using CYMK print process.

High Chroma technology has been developed by Konica Minolta to meet the needs of the graphic design industry. As almost all graphic design now takes place on a computer monitor, designers see vibrant colours on their monitor and want to replicate those colours in print. The challenge has been that a colour monitor uses an RGB (red, green and blue) additive colour light process, whereas a digital colour press uses a CYMK (cyan, yellow, magenta and black) subtractive colour pigment process making it difficult to replicate in print what is seen on screen.

Konica Minolta’s High Chroma technology overcomes this challenge by producing print that reflects output similar to that of an RGB colour device, but using the CMYK print process. This is because the bizhub PRO C65hc produces a wider colour gamut than a conventional colour digital engine. There is an improvement in the middle of the colour gamut, but the most noticeable difference is at the edge, where vividness is greatly increased. The new High Chroma toner and developer help to achieve this, but the most significant change is in the image processing unit, improving imaging accuracy, laser exposure control and dot position.

The results are vibrant greens, cherry reds, and brilliant yellows; the colours that you associate with creative design studios and packaging so that what a designer sees on the screen is closer to what gets produced in print.

Commenting on the launch of the bizhub PRO C65hc, Pauline Brooks, Group Product Manager Production Print for Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK), said, “Our new High Chroma technology allows commercial printers to produce high-impact quality colour work, for example point of sale materials, in short runs on demand. For retailers, food outlets, advertising and other service businesses this means vibrant colour POS materials can be produced quickly in short runs. The whole High Chroma toner process is heavily patented and includes an exclusive component that significantly improves the colour reflection. New head of direct UK sales for Konica Minolta

Mike Fairey has been appointed as Head of UK Direct Sales for Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd. In his new role Mike will manage the direct sales operation for the Konica Minolta bizhub range of document imaging systems and reports to Jos Kelly, Director of Strategic Business Operations.

Konica Minolta has over 20 direct sales and service centres in strategic locations across the UK. The current Konica Minolta product line up ranges from an entry-level 5ppm (print per minute) printer through to a 250 image per minute production print system for high-speed commercial print applications. The company also offers a wide range of software products, leading the marketplace in cost effective print management. Recently the company restructured its direct sales operation focusing on the key vertical markets of SME, large corporate customers and public sector. In his new role Mike will take the direct sales operation forward in its new structure.

Mike has 24 years experience in the IT business sector and joins Konica Minolta after a period in general asset funding and business equipment leasing. He lives with his family in Northamptonshire and his main interests outside work are playing cricket and golf in between coaching and refereeing rugby

Commenting on his appointment Mike said, “The challenge is to produce growth in a tough economic climate. Konica Minolta launches support programme developer applications

Konica Minolta has launched a Developer Support Programme (DSP) to allow software vendors and system integrators to develop new, or to adapt existing applications, which integrate with the Konica Minolta bizhub range of multifunctional imaging systems.

The bizhub concept has three major components: the bizhub system architecture; the Emperon print system controller; and the bizhub OpenAPI, which enables control of both the print and scan functions from external applications. The Developer Support Programme provides all that is required for system integrators that want to develop applications using the OpenAPI interface.

Developments created by using the OpenAPI technology will eventually lead to the creation of customised workflows, which can be bespoke to the individual user, providing an end to end solution for their needs.

The OpenAPI provides for the seamless integration of third party software for applications such as authentication tools, pull print functionality and metadata enhanced scanning with the bizhub device. Existing applications such as the highly successful Konica Minolta PageScope Enterprise Suite have already been developed using OpenAPI. Together with further Konica Minolta technologies, OpenAPI forms the bizhub Extended Solution Technology (bEST).

Konica Minolta launches Information Management Services division for outsourced print

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd has launched an Information Management Services division to provide an outsourced print solution service for corporate and public sector customers. The service allows customers with print room facilities and large fleets of print devices to outsource management of these facilities to Konica Minolta.

Konica Minolta’s IMS division can manage all aspects of print provision for customers including managing the contracts of any legacy equipment as well as providing new state of the art bizhub multifunctionals and printers. The Managed Print Service (MPS) covers all consumable items, provisioning of equipment, engineering support and asset management of devices. IMS will offer various flexible cost models allowing the service to be tailored financially to suit.

The MPS service is viable for machine fleets of ten and upward. Where appropriate Konica Minolta IMS will provide on-site staff for instant support. Print rooms can also be fully staffed and managed.

To ascertain a customer’s needs Konica Minolta will first conduct a comprehensive print audit. This will be followed by an evaluation process resulting in an IMS proposal. Konica Minolta is marketing the service to corporate customers and public sector organisations. For the public sector Konica Minolta can offer IMS as part of the OGCbuying.solutions framework agreement.

For Konica Minolta, Christian Grauwiler, head of the new IMS division said, “Many customers are now aware of the huge cost savings which are achievable through efficient print management. However, effective management requires constant attention; this is where IMS can help the customer focus on his core business while we do what we do best, manage print. The print room is an area that also needs competent management resources to avoid bottlenecks and to control costs. All this is non-core activity for our customers. IMS provides them with an outsourced print service requiring no supervision and at a known and predictable cost. It is provided by one of the biggest suppliers of printers and multifunctional devices in the world with the resources to deliver efficient, reliable and economic print services.”

The compact magicolor 1600W produces up to 5 pages per minute for colour documents and 20 pages per minute for black and white documents. Konica Minolta’s Simitri HD toner ensures that users get a high quality print result with fine details and true colour.

In a landmark sponsorship agreement Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd has become Official Supplier of UK Athletics Major Events for printers, copiers and faxes until September 2013. The agreement takes in UK Athletics participation in the London Olympics to be held in 2012.

As an Official Supplier, Konica Minolta will support UK Athletics at six televised athletics events a year (three indoor and three outdoor). This will commence with the Aviva International Match to be held in Glasgow at the end of January 2009, with coverage on BBC1 and BBC2. The Konica Minolta logo will be clearly visible at the finish line of all events, as well as trackside.

At the events Konica Minolta will supply UK Athletics with the latest high-speed bizhub multifunctionals for copying, printing, scanning and faxing. Konica Minolta bizhub document imaging systems will be provided both at event venues and also at the hotels used by UK Athletics.

To launch the Xperia™ X1 with Windows Mobile® and a WIPI Platform, Sony Ericsson Korea cooperated with SK Telecom, the distributor of the product, to customize the X1 in consideration of the local Korean customers. The result was the development of three new panels – “My smart panel,” “DAUM panel” and “My PC panel” and the localization of the “SPB panel” in Korean for the local user’s convenience. The sales of the Xperia™ X1 will start within March.

“My smart panel” is a wireless Internet service for smart phones developed by SKT, which provides users easy access to online services including mail, messenger and internet browsing. “DAUM panel” is a customized service by Sony Ericsson which gives users instant access to services found on the DAUM portal, such as mail, web search and T-story whilst “My PC panel” allows users to experience ubiquitous and individualized media services by connecting the mobile to the content and software of a PC through WiBro. In addition, the “SPB panel” is a great panel which gives quick finger-friendly access to everything you need in a second.

Specific to the Korean market, additional components and accessories including a battery with charger, a 4G micro SD card installed with the movie Spiderman 3 will accompany every purchase of the Xperia™ X1. The first 1,000 customers will get their names engraved on their X1 and a luxurious leather phone case for free, making it truly personalized.
